Phang Nga province is located just north from Phuket Island and also includes many islands located in Phang Nga Bay. The most famous one is James Bond Island, a limestone peak in the sea, which featured in the 1974 James Bond movie “The Man with the Golden Gun” and today is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area. Phan Nga Province has nine national parks, which many of them are quite famous. One of the national parks is located at the Similan Islands, one of Thailand's main diving destinations. Similan National Park was established in 1982 and it consists of nine different islands.
Phang Nga Province covers an area of 4170 km² and there are about 250,000 habitants. Tourism is not as important as a source of income for the locals as it is for the neighbouring Krabi and Phuket Provinces but still provides many jobs for the area. Locals still rely mainly on farming rubber trees, oil palms, pine apples and other agricultural plants.
